Anglers rescued six miles off Gwynedd coast

Anglers who thought they had drifted a mile from the Gwynedd shoreline had to be towed to safety when their boat's engines failed six miles out to sea.

Holyhead coastguard said the incident was not helped by the fact the VHF radio onboard the vessel had run out of batteries.

Coastguard officials said it was only luck that one of the three fishermen was able to get a mobile phone signal.

It took the Barmouth inshore lifeboat two hours to tow the boat back.

The alarm was raised at lunchtime on Wednesday by the wife of one of the anglers.

The three men on the boat were finally returned to shore at Barmouth at 15:50 BST unharmed.
