A couple who became stranded on a north Wales island when the tide came in have been rescued.

The pair, from London, became marooned on Ballast Island, Gwynedd, on Wednesday at about 17:00 BST.

A lifeboat from RNLI Criccieth was called and the couple was taken to Porthmadog cold but unharmed.

Lifeboat operations manager Peter Williams urged people to be aware of the fast-moving tide when walking onto the estuary.
