A Conwy police station was closed after what were believed to be artillery shells were handed in at the front desk.

North Wales Police said the Colwyn Bay station was evacuated and Rhiw Road and Abergele Road were cordoned off on Monday afternoon.

A Ministry of Defence bomb disposal team was called and the items were found to be practice shells.

The station and roads have since reopened.
