A Gwynedd councillor has denied blackmailing a businessman more than a year ago.

Christopher James O'Neal, 36, is alleged to have demanded £7,500 from the man on 27 December 2013.

The independent councillor, of Llanfairpwll, represents the Marchog ward of Bangor on the county council and also runs a security firm.

He pleaded not guilty at Mold Crown Court on Friday.

A trial date has been set for 10 June and he was released on bail.
