Woman arrested over baby's death in Abergavenny

A woman has been arrested following the death of a baby in Monmouthshire.

Gwent Police were called to a flat in St David's Road, Abergavenny at approximately 0530 GMT on Saturday.

Officers carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the 11-month-old girl but paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

A 22-year-old woman from the Abergavenny area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

A post mortem examination is taking place.

Ch Insp Rod Grindlay of Gwent Police said: "This is a tragic incident. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death at this time.

"It's a domestic incident and there is no risk to the wider community."
