Police investigating a sex attack on a woman in Cardiff have issued a new appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch.

The 20-year-old woman was assaulted in Cathays Terrace while walking home from a night out in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday 26 September.

Detectives investigating the "serious incident" have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

He is seen on CCTV footage walking with the victim through the Cathays area.

Det Insp Tudor Thomas said: "This incident has left the young woman extremely upset and describes it as the worst thing that has ever happened to her.

"I would like to reassure the community that we are fully investigating this serious incident and would appeal for anyone with information to contact us no matter how insignificant it might seem.

"We are keen to identify the individual on CCTV and we would ask him, or anyone who recognises him, to contact South Wales Police."

Det Insp Thomas added: "I would take this opportunity to advise people when returning home from a night out to do so in pairs or groups and to stick to well lit areas."

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Cathays CID on 02920 527 267 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
