Train death at Cadoxton, Barry, is 'unexplained'

A man has died after being struck by a train in the Vale of Glamorgan, say British Transport Police.

Police and paramedics were called to the track close to Cadoxton railway station in Barry at 05:41 GMT on Thursday.

A man believed to be in his 40s was found seriously injured. He died less than three hours later.

The incident, which disrupted local rail services, is being treated as unexplained.

Police say the driver of the 05:20 GMT train from Cardiff Central to Barry reported the collision.

Officers are trying to identify the man and establish why he came to be on the line.

The track was closed as emergency services continued the investigation.

A replacement bus service was in operation. The line reopened before 10:00 GMT.
