Nantyffyllon murder: One dead, one injured in stabbings

A murder investigation has been launched by South Wales Police after stabbings left a 20-year-old man dead and a teenager with serious injuries.

The dead man has been named locally as Thomas Sutton, and a 17-year-old is critically ill in hospital.

Officers are searching the hillside after both were discovered in Tonna Road, at Nantyffyllon, near Maesteg, at about 21:00 BST on Tuesday.

The road is blocked off to traffic.

Looking for clues

No further information has been released about the identity of the people who have been stabbed.

"There has been a lot of police activity," said BBC Wales reporter Stephen Fairclough from the scene.

"Scenes of crime officers have been here throughout the night. They've been painstaking at trying to preserve the scene."

He said the scene was now secure and officers were making measurements and taking some material away in bags.

"Police are on the hillside behind the terraced houses with a dog looking for clues," he added.

"People are emerging from their houses and they are saying they are shocked at what happened.

"One or two said they heard a disturbance last night but didn't think much of it.

"One woman told me she saw attempts for about 45 minutes to resuscitate one of the people who were involved."

He said police had released very little information but inquiries would continue.

Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious can call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
