Man arrested over dog death blaze in Liswerry, Newport

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a pet dog died in a fire in the Liswerry area of Newport.

Emergency services were called to the terraced property in Broadmead Park at around 05:33 BST.

Nobody was injured in the blaze - which damaged the porch - as the house was empty at the time.

Gwent Police said anyone with information can call 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The force said officers had arrested a local man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and he was currently in custody.
