£96,000 fine after 92-year-old fell from care home window

A care home operator has been fined £96,000 after a 92-year-old woman fell from the first floor window in her room at a home in Bridgend, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said.

Olga Llewellyn died after the fall in the early hours of 5 November 2010 at Brocastle Manor Care Home, Ewenny.

A HSE investigation found the window restrictors use could be over-ridden.

Hafod Care Association Ltd, of Cardiff, admitted a health and safety charge and also has to pay £100,000 costs.
