A teacher from Caerphilly county has won a leading literary prize for his first collection of poems.

Jonathan Edwards, from Crosskeys, took home the £5,000 Costa Poetry Award 2014 for his debut collection, My Family and Other Superheroes.

The awards are the only major literary prize open to just writers from the UK and Ireland.

Judges called Mr Edwards' work "joyous, brilliant and moving" and said he was a "poet to celebrate".

Previous winners include Zadie Smith, author of White Teeth.
