Norovirus shuts two wards at Royal Glamorgan Hospital

A norovirus outbreak has caused delays at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital's accident and emergency ward.

Two wards have shut at the hospital, near Llantrisant, which created a backlog on Thursday, a spokesman for Cwm Taf Health Board said.

The health board has apologised for the situation.

Kath McGrath, assistant director of operations, said everyone who needed beds between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning have been admitted.

"We continue to monitor the situation closely and we will re-open the two affected wards as soon as the infection has passed," she added.

"In the meantime visitors are asked to adhere to the visiting restrictions that have been put in place and are advised not to visit if they have symptoms themselves, or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms of norovirus, to prevent further spread."
