A diver trapped underground in France for more than a week has been found dead by two members of a Welsh cave rescue team sent to try and save him.

John Volanthen and Rick Stanton of the South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team found Eric Establie's body on Monday.

There were hopes the diver, who went missing in the Dragonnière Gaud cave near Labastide de Virac in the Ardeche region, would be rescued alive.

He had been missing underground since 3 October.

Experienced cave divers Mr Volanthen and Mr Stanton were flown to the area by the RAF at the request of the French Cave Rescue service - Spéléo Secours Français (SSF).

The SSF said the pair found Mr Establie's body around 3,000ft (900m) from the cave entrance on Monday afternoon.
