Two people have died and a third is in hospital after a car crashed into a tree in the Swansea Valley.

South Wales Police said the silver Renault Clio car left the A474 Neath Road at Fforest Goch near Pondardawe at around 19:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Both victims were declared dead at the scene and the third person was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

The family of the people who died have been informed and police have appealed for witnesses.

The road was closed for around seven hours following the incident.

Police say they want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or who stopped to help or anyone who may have seen the car being driven before the collision.
