A woman who stabbed a businessman in the neck in his car has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

Katie Ann Jenkins, 24, killed Richard Craddock, 51, in May last year, Swansea Crown Court heard.

She plunged a 4 inch (10cm) kitchen knife into his neck in Sterry Road, Gowerton, after he gave her a lift.

Jenkins had been on trial for his murder but later admitted a manslaughter charge which was accepted by the prosecution.

The former call centre worker met Mr Craddock through a friend in May 2013.

On the night of the stabbing she had been at his flat in Sandfields, Swansea, with a friend when she claimed Mr Craddock told her she was attractive and tried to touch her.

Later Mr Craddock offered to take her to get her bank card and buy cigarettes and the court heard she hid a knife in her bra because she feared she would be sexually assaulted.

'Gentle giant'

The jury in her murder trial heard she told a friend she stabbed Mr Craddock after he threatened to rape her.

CCTV footage shown to the jury showed Mr Craddock's Ford Fusion pull over with its hazard lights flashing on Sterry Road before Jenkins got out.

Mr Craddock stumbled out and collapsed. He was found by a passer-by in a pool of blood and died later at Morriston Hospital.

Elwen Evans QC, defending, said Jenkins pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis she had not meant to kill Mr Craddock or cause him serious harm.

Jenkins sobbed in the dock as Judge Keith Thomas made his sentencing remarks at the hearing on Thursday.

Father-of-three Mr Craddock was described by his family as a gentle giant whose good nature was repeatedly taken advantage of.

A victim impact statement read to the court from his mother Agnes Howells said: "He would go out of his way to help others. It was while helping that girl that his life was taken from him.

"I go to his grave as often as I can to be with my boy. As a mother I cannot begin to accept I'll never see my boy again."
