Three men quizzed over Pontardawe canal death

Three men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in a canal in Pontardawe, Neath Port Talbot.

John Griffiths' body was found at Herbert Street around 09:00 BST on 1 September.

South Wales Police have released a picture of Mr Griffiths wearing a brown tweed jacket which they want to trace.

They said the men in custody were helping with inquiries and the investigation was ongoing.

Detectives are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Mr Griffiths' body.

The three arrested men are from Pontardawe and aged 20, 41 and 42. They were taken into custody over the weekend, police said.

Supt Andy Kingdom appealed for people in the vicinity of the canal between 18:00 BST on Sunday 31 August and 08:50 Monday 1 September to contact police as they "may have vital information, no matter how small, that could help our investigation".

He added: "We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have noticed a disturbance involving Mr Griffiths."
