A major river search is under way in Carmarthen after an 11-year-old boy fell into the water.

Police, firefighters, a coastguard rescue team, the Ferryside inshore lifeboat crew and an RAF Sea King rescue helicopter are at the scene at the River Towy in the Tanerdy area.

Dyfed-Powys Police was called just before 16:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The lifeboat crew is patrolling the riverbank on foot after returning the boat to shore.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it deployed two boats and three fire appliances to help the rescue efforts.
