Ten people were killed in a bar stampede in a South African township during New Year celebrations, officials said.
Police said they were investigating the cause of the crush at the crowded bar in Ipelegeng, a township about 300km (186 miles) southwest of Johannesburg.
Many of the dead are believed to be aged between 18 and 25.
One local official described it as the "worst New Year celebration disaster" in the North West province's history.
Some reports suggest the stampede, which took place shortly after midnight, occurred when party-goers tried to escape a fight.
Police spokesperson Adele Myburgh urged the community to "remain calm and not take the law into their own hands".
