More than 24,000 Pakistanis have broken a world record to create the world's largest human flag.

The record was broken in the eastern city of Lahore's hockey stadium, in what was described as an "amazing display of unity".

The thousands of young people held up green and white boxes to create the Pakistani standard.

The flag broke a record set five years ago, in Hong Kong, when 21,726 formed a human flag.

"Every single one of you holds this record," Guinness World Records adjudicator Gareth Deaves said.

On Saturday evening, 42,813 people in the same stadium sang the national anthem together, smashing the previous best of 15,243 held by India.

They also created the world's largest mosaic, creating a picture of Lahore Fort, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
