Former Nepal PM Marich Man Singh Shrestha dies
Former Nepalese Prime Minister Marich Man Singh Shrestha has died in Kathmandu after a long battle against lung cancer, family members say.
Mr Shrestha was brought to the capital from Delhi where he had been undergoing treatment and was on ventilator support.
Mr Shrestha told family members that he wished to die in his own country, local media has reported.
He is being cremated on Thursday after last rites are performed.
The first prime minister of the country from the Newar community, Mr Shrestha was dismissed by King Birendra during demonstrations in support of multi-party elections.
He served as prime minister from 1986 to 1990.
