Fifteen passengers were burnt to death when two buses collided and caught fire in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, reports say.

The crash took place on the Nagpur-Aurangabad highway in Buldhana district early on Monday.

Reports said dozens of people were injured and many of them were believed to be critical.

It is not yet known what caused the accident, but some media reports said both the buses were speeding.

Thousands of people die in India every year in road accidents. Most are blamed on bad driving or poor roads and vehicles.
