Lorry crash kills 17 in India's Himachal Pradesh

Seventeen road workers were killed when their lorry swerved off the road in icy conditions in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh.

Police said their vehicle plunged 60m (200 feet) into a gorge in remote Kinnaur district, leaving only two injured survivors.

The district, which borders Tibet, has seen heavy snowfalls in recent days.

The men, from the Border Roads Organisation, had just cleared a section of the Hindustan-Tibet highway.

Most of the men were from Jharkhand and Bihar.
