Oatlands College expels four students over Facebook comments
Four pupils at a Dublin school have been expelled after posting allegedly abusive comments about teachers on the social networking site Facebook.
The decision was taken at a board meeting at Oatlands College, Stillorgan, this week.
All four students, who were in fifth year, had already served a 20-day suspension.
The parents of the pupils are expected to appeal the ruling under section 29 of Ireland's Education Act.
It is understood a teacher at the school saw the posts and alerted the principal.
Oatlands College which has over 500 pupils, was founded in 1951 and is run by the Christian Brothers.
Six years ago, 14 students were suspended at the all-girls private school Alexandra College, Dublin, after posting offensive material on Bebo.
