Staff held hostage by 'armed man' in Tipperary

Irish police have used a taser gun during an arrest after four people were taken hostage in County Tipperary.

Gardai were called after a man, who was believed to have been armed, entered a pharmacy in Ladywells, Cashel, shortly after 10:00 BST on Tuesday.

Four members of staff at the shop were held hostage and the gardai sent trained negotiators and members from the Regional Support Unit to the scene.

The taser was discharged as the man was arrested at about 12:20 BST.

The detained man, who was aged in his early 20s, was not injured.

Gardai recovered an intimation firearm after his arrest.
