The continuing decline in the construction industry in the Republic of Ireland deepened in July 2012, an Ulster Bank survey has suggested.

The bank's Construction Purchasing Managers' Index represented the 62nd consecutive monthly reduction in building activity.

The survey noted that Irish construction companies continued to cut their workforces.

The biggest fall in business activity was in civil engineering projects.
