A teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 16-year-old girl in Dublin earlier this year.

Melanie McCarthy-McNamara was shot in the head while sitting in the back of a car on Brookview Way on 8 February and died in hospital a short time later.

The 17-year-old boy made no reply when he was charged with her murder.

He was remanded in detention to St Patrick's Institution - a detention centre for young offenders - and is due to appear back in court next Tuesday.

Keith Hall, 23, from Kilmartin Drive in Tallaght, has already been charged with the murder.

At the time of the killing, Irish police said they believed Melanie was not the intended target of the attack.
