Man arrested as part of Aoife Phelan murder inquiry
Gardaí investigating the disappearance of Aoife Phelan have arrested a man in his 20s.
It is understood he is being questioned at Portlaoise Garda Station.
Earlier, officers discovered the body of a female near Portlaoise.
A preliminary examination has been completed on the remains which were uncovered at around midday, during a dig in a field at the back of a house on the Timahoe Road.
The remains have now been taken away for a post mortem at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore
Ms Phelan, who was four months pregnant, went missing in Portlaoise 13 days ago.
A search by divers on the river Barrow has been stood down.
A 24-year-old man who had been questioned in relation to the disappearance of Ms Phelan was released without charge on Tuesday.
