Rally driver Paul Mulcahy dies after race crash

A rally driver has been killed while taking part in race in the Republic of Ireland.

In a statement, Motorsport Ireland said Paul Mulcahy, from Dungarvan in County Waterford, died as a result of a "tragic accident".

It happened on stage 4 of the Carrick-on-Suir rally on Sunday afternoon.

The statement added that the rally organisers, Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club, have cancelled the remainder of the event as a mark of respect.

"Motorsport Ireland and Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club extend their heartfelt sympathy to Paul's family and friends," the statement said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very sad time."
