Four men arrested after foiled robbery attempt in Cork

Four men have been arrested as part of a police investigation into an attempted armed robbery at the home of a Cork businessman.

Two men were arrested on Monday following an extensive air and ground search in the Glounthaune area.

On Sunday night, two other men in their 30s and 40s, were arrested near the house of the businessman in the village of Glounthaune.

A search is continuing for a fifth man.

It is believed police were waiting for the men when they arrived at the businessman's home.

A search is continuing to locate weapons used by the men, who are believed to be members of a gang suspected of carrying out other robberies in the Cork area.

It is unclear whether there were family members at the house at the time of the attempted robbery but Irish police said no-one was injured.

The men are being held at Midleton and Cobh Garda stations and can be detained for up to seven days.
