Man dies on street in Dublin's Temple Bar

A man has died on a street in Dublin in an area regularly used by rough sleepers.

He was found in an "unresponsive state" at Cow's Lane, Temple Bar, shortly before 07:00 local time on Friday and was pronounced dead two hours later.

Police have not yet released the man's name and could not confirm media reports that he was homeless.

Last month, there was a public outcry after a homeless man died on a Dublin street close to the Irish parliament.

The death of 43-year-old Jonathan Corrie prompted the Catholic archbishop of Dublin to offer a church building to be used as a homeless shelter.

The man who died on Friday morning is believed to be from eastern Europe.

The emergency services were called and attempts were made to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 09:00.
