Michael Lambert, the Republic of Ireland's oldest man dies aged 107

Ireland's oldest man has died at the age of 107.

Michael Lambert from Ballintubber, County Roscommon, was born on 5 October 1907.

He became Ireland's oldest man last November following the death of Luke Dolan, who was 108.

Mr Lambert and his wife had ten children and 22 grandchildren and were married for more than 60 years. He died on Sunday night at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

He spent most of his life working as a farmer and also worked for the Land Commission and Roscommon County Council.

Mr Lambert attributed his good health in his later years to giving up smoking more than 50 years ago.
