Teenager dies after falling from horse into Cork river

A teenage boy has died after falling off a horse into a swollen river in the Republic of Ireland.

The 16-year-old was riding the horse on the banks of the Glashaboy River in Glanmire, County Cork, when he was thrown into the water.

The alarm was raised by two of his friends at about 18:30 local time on Saturday.

He died at Cork University Hospital on Sunday.
