Offaly alert: Bomb made safe near house in Ballinacurra

A bomb has been made safe by the Irish army in County Offaly.

The defence forces were called to the scene in Ballinacurra at around 14:15 local time on Thursday afternoon.

A viable device was found near a house and was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion.

A small number of nearby homes were evacuated during the alert.

Items were seized and police are investigating.
