A 28-year-old man has been shot dead in Dublin.
He was sitting in a car outside a shopping centre at Fortunestown Lane, Tallaght, when he was attacked at about 21:20 local time on Monday.
It's understood he got out of the car and tried to escape, but he was shot again in the head.
He received medical assistance at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The man, a fitness instructor, was known to gardaí and had a number of convictions, including a drugs conviction after he was found with a small number of ecstasy tablets earlier this year.
Gardaí believe the victim could have been an associate of Darragh Nugent, a known gunman and drug dealer who was shot dead in Clondalkin last week.
One line of inquiry is the possibility that the two shootings could be linked.
However, detectives say it is too early to establish a motive for the killing.
A post-mortem examination is to be arranged and the scene has been preserved for a forensic examination.
