Police have identified a man found dead following a fire in Sark as John George Vincent Marquand.

Det Insp Ashley Nicholas said the 30-year-old had been identified through a combination of dental examination and the inquiries undertaken by police.

Mr Marquand, a former Guernsey resident, had been living in Sark.

Three people were in the house when the fire started on Sunday, but two escaped uninjured. Inquiries into the cause of the fire are continuing.

Det Insp Nicholas said no further information would be released until the inquest resumed. It was adjourned on Sunday for forensic tests to be carried out.

The island's fire engine and emergency services were called to Jardin Louise after a fire started at about 0210 BST on Sunday.

Twelve firefighters were involved in tackling the fire, which took about 35 minutes to put out.
