Guernsey hospital wards to 'stay mixed sex'

Surgical wards at Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital are likely to stay mixed sex, at least in the short term, the island's health minister has said.

His comments came as the UK government was expected to decide NHS wards should be single sex by the end of 2010.

Deputy Hunter Adam said the island's wards were divided by the type of surgery being carried out on a patient.

However, he admitted it could change: "We may be able to divide them with one sex at one end, one sex at the other."
