Guernsey taxpayers offered payment amnesty

  • Published

Guernsey taxpayers are being offered an amnesty to put their tax affairs in order without facing a fine or prosecution.

The Income Tax Irregularities Scheme will run from 1 January and any declarations must be made 31 March.

Rob Gray, director of income tax, said it was important in the present climate that the right amount of tax was paid.

He said to deter future tax evasion he would be sending more cases to be prosecuted in the courts.

Mr Gray said: "I have introduced this facility in order to assist the non-compliant taxpayer to put their tax affairs in order.

"If they choose not to take advantage of the generous terms offered then, upon discovery, they will face the full implications of their tax evasion."
