Guernsey could have a new head of international relations if a recruiting campaign by the policy council is successful.

The council said the new post holder would be responsible for developing links with the UK government and further afield.

The post has been vacant since Richard McMahon joined the crown officers as Her Majesty's Comptroller.

Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Trott, said no new funding was involved.

He said: "The post holder will, to all intents and purposes, lead the external relations team and be lead advisor to the external relations group of the policy council.

"The conduit if you like between States departments, the policy council and the Channel Islands policy officer, and will be the Chief Ministers right hand man when dealing with ambassadorial roles."
