Campaign sends 'strong drink-drive message'

Guernsey's Christmas drink-driving campaign has sent a strong message to motorists, according to the island's police.

During the first half of December six people were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Ch Insp Nigel Taylor said he believed motorists appreciated the work done by the officers running the campaign.

He said: "The vast majority of people we speak to are very pleased that we're out there keeping them safe."

Ch Insp Taylor said: "There are a minority of drivers out there who are still out there drinking and driving and clearly those are being dealt with very robustly by both ourselves and the courts.

"[The campaign] is more about the road safety message that we're getting out there to the vast majority of drivers and it's well received."
