Herm was described as "fantastic" by Guernsey's Lieutenant Governor after his first visit to the island.

Air Marshal Peter Walker's day trip included tours of St Tugual's Church, the school and community hall before a sea bass and scallop lunch.

His Excellency said he was already looking forward to returning to Herm.

He said: "Islands have their own distinctive characteristics so in my mind I had a vision of what it was like but it exceeded my expectations."

The former RAF officer added that he was looking forward to returning to the island, especially to improve his sea and fly-fishing.

In his role as Lieutenant Governor he is the Queen's representative for the Bailiwick.
