Guernsey rugby player avoids prison after assault

Guernsey rugby player James Regnard has avoided jail after being found guilty of assaulting two Jersey rugby players after last year's Siam Cup match.

Regnard, 31, of Queen's Road in St Peter Port, was convicted of attacking Dave Felton and Paul Rodgers at St Pierre Park Hotel on 2 May 2010.

Magistrate Philip Robey sentenced him to 120 hours of community service.

Regnard will also have to pay £449 to Mr Felton, £149 of which is for dental work necessitated by the assault.

He had denied the charge but was found guilty following a trial in May.
