Guernsey deputies to elect board member at next meeting

Guernsey's politicians are due to elect a new member to the Commerce and Employment board at their next meeting.

The successful nominee will replace Deputy Robert Sillars, who resigned following his election to the Education board on 26 October.

All department seats will be reassigned after April's general election, meaning the deputy who wins the seat might hold the role only until May.

The election will take place in the States assembly on 30 November.

Deputy Sillars said he had wanted to vacate the seat in order to give him "the time to get stuck into education".

He replaced Deputy Matt Fallaize on the Education board after the latter resigned following a drop in GCSE results at three of the island's high schools.
