Milk retailers state their case to 30 politicians

Guernsey's Milk Retailers Association has stated its case to 30 politicians ahead of a political debate on the future of the island's dairy industry.

The group made a presentation about its fears for retailers' livelihoods.

It said proposals put forward by the States' Commerce and Employment department would allow businesses to get supplies direct from the dairy, rather than via milk retailers.

Spokesman Brian Martel said he was pleased with the meeting.

He said it received a good turnout and the politicians who attended were receptive.

A report on Guernsey's dairy industry will be debated by politicians at their November meeting.
