Guernsey departments aim to appoint chief officer

Applications have opened for the role of chief officer of Guernsey's Commerce and Employment Department.

Jon Buckland, who currently holds the post, is due to take over as chief officer at the Education Department from 1 February.

Mike Brown, States Chief Executive, said candidates needed knowledge of all sectors of the island's economy.

He said the department had a "very broad mandate" in its promotion of local industries.

Mr Brown said: "It is responsible for promoting the interest of all sectors of Guernsey's economy, not least the financial services sector.

"For these reasons, and in light of the business-focused nature of the role and the important challenges and opportunities the local economy faces, we will be advertising the role both internally and externally, in order to attract as wide a range of suitable applicants as possible."

The application period closes on 8 February.
