Guernsey Dairy milk price to rise by 3p per litre

Guernsey Dairy milk prices are to rise by 3p per litre, the Commerce and Employment minister has announced.

Deputy Kevin Stewart described the 2.9% increase, which will come into effect from 7 October, as "modest".

From that date, litre packs will cost £1.08, non-organic half-litre packs will be 61p (up 3.4%) and organic half-litres will sell for 80p (up 2.6%).

The department set the prices, which retailers cannot discount, on the advice of the Milk Price Review Panel.

Deputy Stewart said the new prices were "realistic".

The new, standard, one-litre price, which will apply to skimmed, low fat and full cream milk, will be 10p above the amount charged in September, 2010 - a rise of 10.2% in just over two years.
