Demolition starts at Guernsey's Les Beaucamps school

Demolition has begun on the old Les Beaucamps School in Guernsey to make way for new multimillion-pound sports facilities.

The new school opened last month but the old school building is being bulldozed.

Deputy Robert Sillars, Guernsey's Education Minister, said a new swimming pool, sports hall and playing fields were being built on the site.

He said the facilities would also be available to the wider community.

But Deputy Sillars said the sports facilities for the pupils were restricted until the new facilities were built.

He said: "This is the only downside, that there will be a restriction until this is completed in hopefully September 2013.

"But when you think of what has been achieved it is a price worth paying I believe."
