A Guernsey school has embarked on what it describes as a "first of a kind" volunteering trip.

Students from Elizabeth College have travelled to north-west Kenya to spend nearly two weeks teaching children and building play equipment.

Jonathan Shaw, the school's vice principal, said the trip would ensure the 18 students were kept busy.

He said he believed the visit to Kenya was the first project of its kind by Guernsey pupils.

Mr Shaw said he hoped it would become an annual trip.
