Anglers rescued from holed boat off Alderney

A group of anglers were rescued from a charter boat after it hit a rock off the south east coast of Alderney.

The Weymouth-registered Lone Shark was taking on water after it hit the rock 1.5 miles off the coast shortly after 17:30 BST on Wednesday.

The 12 people on board were rescued by the Tiger Lily, another Weymouth fishing charter boat.

Crew from Alderney's lifeboat boarded the vessel to pump out water while it was towed to Braye Harbour.

Shortly before 20:00 BST the Lone Shark was craned out of the water.

The lifeboat had not stood down before it was also called out to help the lone skipper of the Alderney fishing boat Cygnet.

The boat was having engine trouble near Bibette Head, at the entrance to Braye Bay, and the lifeboat towed it safely back to its mooring in Braye Harbour.
