French yachtsman missing off Alderney is named
A French yachtsman whose boat was found drifting off Alderney has been named by police.
Sebastien Pons, 42, from Hainneville in Normandy was reported missing on Wednesday by his wife who had been unable to contact him.
His yacht the Manua was found eight miles off Alderney on Friday.
A Guernsey Police spokesman said nothing suspicious had been found but the vessel would be lifted out of the water to be examined.
He said they wanted to establish whether there was any damage to the underside of the vessel, the rudder or the propeller.
The spokesman said Mr Pons was being treated as a missing person and work to trace him was ongoing.
French authorities said it is unlikely the missing sailor would be found alive due to the amount of time that had passed.
