Guernsey telecoms company to charge for paper bills

Guernsey's main telecom company, Sure, have announced plans to charge for paper bills from September.

The company said it wanted to encourage people to use the internet to receive their bills.

A spokesman for Sure said customers would have to pay £1 per month to get a paper bill and £1 to pay by a method other than direct debit.

They said those customers who do not have internet connections would be exempt from the charges.

The company said it sends out about 26,000 paper bills to customers every month, something it describes as a significant outgoing.

A spokesman for Sure said three months' notice for customers should be sufficient time for them to sign up to direct debit payments and online billing.
